Yesterday I played Skylinks in Long Beach with a group of guys from the Navy Men's Club (The Navy course is the course Tiger Woods learned on after he graduated from the par 3 course called Heartwell). This group travels around about half the time and plays a fun skins game.
I was playing with some good players all ranging fro 2 to 5 handicaps in our 5some. The course was dry and the fairways ran very firm and fast which made the drives go long if you hit them straight. We had 15 birdies in our five some alone and we were playing a "dots" game where you get paid for skins, closest to pins, sandies and birdies (even if you are cut you get a dot for the bird).
The work I have been doing with Monte on my pitching has really helped me, not only did I hit some great pitches from around the green to save par and make a birdie on a par 5 but the work we did on "Pitching Prescription" has REALLY helped my partial and full wedge shots ranging from 60 to 115 yards. Using the same feel from pitching RX I my wedges much better than before and birdied 15, 17, and 18 (the last 2 being some of the toughest on the course) on those holes I birdied with wedge approaches of 15 yards (to 3 feet), 114 yards (to 11 feet) and 94 yards (to 2.5 feet)
It wasn't all perfect I hit 13 greens but I 3 putted the first and 3rd holes each from about 35 feet), I need to work on that, and actually even though I hit some great drives I never felt in synch with the driver, still getting "offsides" and jumping out of the swing a bit. The main thing was that I managed my misses well and pitched the ball very well.
