This is a great point I meant to talk about but I forgot. Stick with me here, this is a little complex. My theory (and I pretty sure I am right) is this.
I diagnose my OTT move with a video camera that is pointed down the line. I didn't really see my OTT move in the face on view. So when I would watch my swing in the down the line view and see that over the top transition move, in my brain I would equate that OTT move as a down the line problem, meaning that when I would try to fix my OTT move I would search for a DOWN THE LINE solution.
I think most golfers do this, so I would try to suck my hands in or "Swing to first base" or "swing down then around" or worst of all "keep my back to the target longer" (I still have no idea what that means or how to do it. THE REVELATION I found in this video that I did not realize is that a camera is a 2 dimensional tool and the golf swing exists in 3 dimensions. There are no down the line or face on problems, in the golf swing everything is connected to everything else completely. SO no amount of down the line swing thoughts are going to help an OTT golfer (they weren't helping me anyway and same goes for so many golfers who just can't shake that OTT move).
So what I found was that MY OTT move was now actually from an early opening of the shoulders or anything you always hear but actually from leaning/ tipping over to the left on the way down. As I tipped left I would HAVE TO swing steeply down on the ball to make contact (albeit with a monster divot and erratic face angle but contact). So as GI joe says "Learning is half the battle" I learned that my downswing move left was the culprit of many swing flaws and the OTT move was one of them.
Discovering how to break the cycle is what this video is all about.
I still am working on it but the ROOT of it all is RETRAINING my brian and body to think and feel differently about WHAT hits the golf ball.
TBH this all started after I read "The Impact Zone" and became OBSESSED with a 4 inch in front swing bottom. By hook or by crook I was going to have a four inch in front swing bottom, hooray I did it but I created the much worse problem of falling left to do it.
